Rain Water Harvesting

Water is a precious resource. Most of the water piped to your house is used for either washing clothes or for flushing the toilet.

A simple rain harvesting system that collects water from your roof can be used for these activities. The system is ideal for remote locations where mains-water is not available – in such cases power for pumping can be generated by solar (PV) panels, wind turbines or a hybrid system combining both technologies.

Rainwater used for toilets needs only minimal filtering. If, however, it is to be used for washing then further filtering is required. If the water is to be used for drinking, then it has to be passed through UV filters and may require chemicals to be added to ensure safety.

Grey Water Recovery

The re-use of water within the house is known as grey water recovery. For example, storing water used for washing clothes that is then used for flushing toilets.
